Author Appearances
Laura has spoken to schools (elementary, middle, and high school levels), libraries, teacher/librarian conferences, and literary festivals. She can address a variety of topics including creative writing techniques (journalism and fiction), research, and the specific historic eras featured in her novels. Typically, when asked to focus on particular books, Laura will talk about her picture books for grades K-2; Give Me Liberty or Flying South for grades 3-5; and Under a War-torn Sky, A Troubled Peace, or Annie, Between the States for middle schools and high schools. She is able and willing to speak to a variety of grade levels within one visit, but with a limit of up to three assemblies in a day. It is possible to add on a small group seminar of students especially interested in writing/reading after school (or an evening visit with students and parents).
To schedule a visit and for information about fees, please email authorvisits@harpercollins.com or contact the school and libraries department of HarperCollinsChildren at 212.261.6500.
